BBC - DIY SOS: 2 Million Pound Build for Children in Need

Some of my pieces appeared on the latest episode of BBC's DIY SOS!

I'm truly excited to see them go to such a great cause alongside
some great pieces by numerous other artists through Brandler Galleries.

The artwork was donated to furnish a renovated recreational room
for teenage carers, when they need a space to relax and have fun.

You can watch the episode for a limited time HERE
on BBC iPlayer!

Information from BBC iPlayer's site:

Nick Knowles, Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen and the trusty purple shirts
venture north to Blackpool to tackle this year's most ambitious build in
DIY SOS: Million Pound Build for BBC Children in Need.

This special DIY SOS is set to capture the nation's heart as Nick
and the team highlight the plight of the nation's 250,000 young carers
who care on a daily basis for their parents.

Blackpool Carers Trust provides limited out-of-school respite
and training activities as well as peer support for young carers,
and their current centre is bursting at the seams.

The Blackpool Carers Trust, which is supported with funding from
BBC Children in Need, provides much-needed support to young carers
like 11-year-old Tyanna and ten-year-old Gracie who bathe and
generally care for their ill mother, former nurse Suzanne who was
diagnosed with osteoporosis, but also their dad Sean who is dealing with cancer.

The Carers Trust has inherited a broken, enormous build
which sees a dramatic reinvention of a huge overgrown garden
and run-down, neglected building into an unrecognisable, inspiring
and colourful base for youths with caring responsibilities.

It's all done in the cheeky DIY SOS spirit which includes an attempt
on their very own 'most selfies in three minutes' for a Guinness World Record!

PIKACHU/FRANKENMOUSE COLLAB - The Spread Eagle, Brentwood (6th September 2016)

Yesterday I painted my "Pikachu/Frankenmouse Collab"
design at The Spread Eagle pub on Queens Road, Brentwood.

I had a great time! :)

But Why?

The design is actually quite special to me.
(My childhood Pikachu came along to supervise!
I've had it 20+ years now. <3)

I've been addicted to playing Pokemon Go between commissions.
Last month, I noticed that The Spread Eagle was a Pokestop...
So you can imagine my delight when it turned out that I
would be painting a piece there!

I've been eager to create a Pokemon themed piece ever since
I was incarnated as "Thingie".

The inspiration runs a bit deeper than playing a new game, however...
Having grown up on Pokemon as a child; the games, cards, toys and anime series
left a deep lasting impression on me, as it did many other 90s kids.

You can see particularly in Pikachu's early design in the 90s that Frankenmouse,
my tag character and partner in crime, shares subtle physical similarities
to my childhood toy. The hunched back, the 'soft' body type,
the chubby arms/legs and tiny fingers/claws.

You may have also noticed that Mouse Girl and Frankenmouse
in my blog banner resemble the Pokemon Trainer and Pikachu
in the 1998 Gameboy game POKEMON YELLOW.

Anyway, enough of that!
Here's some process photos taken
throughout the day...

I'd like to say thanks again to The Spread Eagle for allowing me
to let loose my design on the people of Brentwood!

Also thank you to anyone who came to chat to me,
took photos and videos yesterday :)
